Keys to Success and Living Your Dream

Life can be a struggle, but if you follow some basic rules, you can endure and not just survive, but thrive. When you have the right attitude and back it up with the right actions, you can see all your dreams fulfilled, and achieve success in your career and personal life. The advice below is key to surviving the storms,  and having success, peace, and joy.

Do the Right Thing

The worst bosses I’ve ever had were very unhappy inside, and sometimes didn’t even realize it. When someone lacks empathy and a conscience, they’ll do what they’ve always done and continue to eventually get (or lose) what they always got. They will probably never pick up the mirror because their hands are busy pointing fingers and playing victim. Don’t stoop to their level, move on to bigger and better things. Doing the right thing is tough when things aren’t going right. That’s the test. Doing the right thing even when you don’t want to and life seems so unfair is the true test of character. I see people who do this end up getting rewarded for it in many ways. It’s not usually immediately, success may be well in the future. Doing the wrong thing will eventually catch up to you, often in very unexpected ways and times.

Never Give Up

It only takes one good thing to happen one day and your whole life can change. Don’t give up the day before the miracle happens. Tough times don’t last, tough people do. It seems to happen for me when I’ve been pushed to my limit, am at the end of my rope, and feel I have no more rope left to tie knots in. I recently went through two solid years of constant struggles before everything finally turned around. Everything looked bleak as far as my career, relationships, and health. The boyfriend I was unhappy with turned psycho stalker after the breakup, a cancer scare compounded a bothersome health issue. It was raging drama. It seemed I had to fight against everything at once. I did what I had to do though, no matter how many calls and consultations it took. I now have a tiny scar that’s barely noticeable on the outside, but refused to be scarred on the inside, and am happier than I’ve been in years. Change the changeable, accept the unchangeable, and remove yourself from the unacceptable.

Don’t Settle

People who achieve great things in life have big dreams. Many of us are only limited by our own faith, imagination, and efforts. I’ve heard all types of excuses about obstacles people face in life. Take a look at double leg amputees who run races and all the now famous people who ignored hundreds of rejection letters and failures. They all had the necessary faith and persistence to follow their dreams.

Don’t Let Bad Times Make You a Negative Person/Victim

I was very angry at the man who stalked and harassed me after our breakup. However, once I cooled off, I realized I needed to let go of the anger for my own emotional well-being. Unfortunately, he ignored many warnings and made me use the justice system to force him to leave me alone. But I decided it wasn’t my place to take vengeance, I left that to karma. How people treat you is their karma, how you react is yours. I dropped the charge to a misdemeanor and asked that any jail time be served to allow him to keep his job. I didn’t do it expecting him to be grateful, he won’t be. I did it for myself so that I could feel good about doing the right thing. Forgiveness is a gift you give yourself. It’s not about the other person being deserving of forgiveness, it’s about you deserving peace. Resentment is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to get ill. A negative mind will never give you a positive life. Positive thoughts attract positive things and negative thoughts attract negative things in your life.

Don’t Look Back

We need to learn from our mistakes and move on. Keep in mind the lessons you need to not forget and forget the rest. You know you’re on the right path when you become uninterested in looking back. I try to help others by sharing my struggles, and by writing about it here, I am now free to formally close one chapter and embrace the next fully.
